Barnet Needs
Foster Carer

Can you help a child? and your community?

Currently, there is an undeniable shortage of foster carers in and around Barnet. Shockingly, there are approximately 205 children and teenagers in the borough in need of both temporary and long-term care.

Young people require stable, loving homes and caregivers for security and support. Although they come from different backgrounds and experiences, providing them with a nurturing environment can positively bridge that gap.

Fostering isn’t a walk in the park – it requires a lot of hard work and dedication. But rest assured, you have the ability to make a difference in the lives of others. We’re seeking compassionate and committed individuals who long to offer transformative care to these children.

At GLF, we believe that foster carers should be generously compensated for the hard work they do. That’s why we pay our carers up to £100 more than other agencies. We couldn’t do this without you, and we want to make sure you know how much we value your contributions.

Our fostering payments are simple and straightforward, consisting of a fixed weekly fee that covers all costs associated with caring for a child, including a reward element. We avoid one-time payments for things like birthdays to make your life easier.

GLF carers receive the following amounts:

– £450 per week for caring for a child aged 0-10

– £475 per week for caring for a child aged 11+

– £550-1600 per week for caring for more complex or high-needs children.

It’s our way of saying thank you for the amazing job you do!

Andrea’s story

“Your most important job is to keep everyone safe. At the end of the placement, when everyone is happier and more positive than when they first arrived, it makes those challenges worth it.

I’ve fostered a number a babies over the years. In particular, one baby was withdrawing from drugs and alcohol, as well as having a disability. You can imagine the joy I felt when he left us, nearly walking – after being told he might never be able to.

I’ve had a great time fostering and if you have the patience and love to give, then go for it.”
