More Carers Needed Across London

What are the benefits of being a GLF Foster Carer?

At Greater London Fostering we see ourselves as more than just an agency. We are a community of foster carers and professionals working together to build positive futures for children.

As a GLF foster carer you can expect:

How to Become a Foster Carer

Becoming a foster carer is a structured process designed to help you understand the role and prepare for fostering.

The typical steps include:

  • Arrange a call with a member of our recruitment team

  • Have an initial visit (often virtual) to learn more about fostering and how it would fit into your lifestyle

  • Join us for Skills to Foster training, a detailed two-day preparation course

  • Complete an application

  • Begin your fostering assessment

  • Become an approved foster carer

Let’s Get Started

If you have a spare bedroom and a good level of availability, there may be very little standing in your way of becoming a foster carer.

However, we are also actively recruiting carers who can foster babies. In these situations a spare bedroom is not always required, as the baby can sleep in a cot in the foster carer’s bedroom.

If you have ever thought about fostering, the easiest first step is simply to have a conversation with us.

Fostering Payments

It may surprise you to learn that foster carers can sometimes receive significantly less with other agencies. At Greater London Fostering we believe that the people doing the important work of caring for children should be properly supported and rewarded.

Our fostering payment is a clear weekly fee, which includes both the cost of caring for a child and a reward element recognising your commitment.

We prefer a straightforward weekly payment rather than multiple small one-off payments for things such as birthdays or holidays.

GLF foster carers currently receive:

  • £479.50 per week to care for a child aged 0–10

  • £507.50 per week to care for a child aged 11+

  • £550 – £1600 per week for children with higher or more complex needs

“I know other non-GLF carers who are surprised at how much more I receive to foster, while doing essentially the same role. Some have even transferred as a result.”
Andrea – GLF Foster Carer

You Probably Have a Lot of Questions About Fostering

Most people who start thinking about fostering have lots of questions — about the process, whether they would be suitable, and what fostering is really like day-to-day.

We’re always happy to have an informal conversation about fostering and answer any questions you may have.

Why not arrange a short 15-minute call with our team? It can often save hours of searching the internet and help you understand whether fostering might be right for you.

And we genuinely enjoy talking to people about fostering.

Fostering in Enfield

Across Enfield there are children and young people who cannot currently live with their birth families and need safe, stable homes. Foster carers play a vital role in supporting these children, helping them feel secure and supported while longer-term plans are made.

When children can stay close to their local community it helps them remain connected to their schools, friends and familiar surroundings. That is why there is such an ongoing need for foster carers living in Enfield and nearby areas.

At Greater London Fostering, we work with carers across London who want to make a positive difference in a child’s life. Whether you live in Enfield, Edmonton, Southgate, Palmers Green or the surrounding areas, fostering could be an opportunity to provide a safe and supportive home for a child who needs it.
