What Happens When You Contact Us?

Many people worry they’ll be pressured into making a decision — but that’s not how we work.

When you get in touch, we will:

  • listen to your situation and answer your questions honestly
  • explain what fostering involves in a clear, straightforward way
  • talk through whether fostering could be right for you
  • outline the next steps, if and when you’re ready

There’s no obligation, and no expectation — just a supportive conversation.

Thinking About Fostering?

If you’re exploring fostering, it’s completely normal to have questions.

You might be wondering:

  • whether you have the right experience
  • how fostering would fit around your life
  • what support you would receive
  • how the process works

We’re here to help you understand all of this.

Support Every Step of the Way

At Greater London Fostering, we support carers from the very first conversation through to approval and beyond.

The process to become a foster carer usually takes around 6 months, and throughout that time you’ll receive:

  • one-to-one guidance from our team
  • training through Skills to Foster
  • a dedicated assessing social worker
  • ongoing support once you’re approved

You’re never expected to figure things out on your own.

Financial Support

Foster carers receive a weekly payment to support them in their role.

  • £479.50 per week for children aged 10 and under
  • £507.50 per week for children aged 11 and over

This includes both:

  • the cost of caring for a child
  • a reward element recognising your role

Baby Fostering Enquiries

Greater London Fostering is actively recruiting baby-only foster carers.

If you’re specifically interested in caring for babies:

  • a spare bedroom is not always required
  • babies can sleep in a cot in your bedroom

If this is something you’d like to explore, please let us know when you get in touch.
