To become a foster carer

It’s heartbreaking that some children can’t live with their birth families, and require foster carers. Despite this, it’s our responsibility to find them the greatest homes possible. Could you extend a helping hand?

There is currently a shortage of foster carers in Havering and the rest of London. We’re on a mission to help and we’re seeking 15 new fostering families to give homes to local children who might have to leave the area otherwise.

Want to know how you can get involved? Download our guide to fostering for useful information and answers to your questions. Or, give us a call on 0208 347 8741 and we’ll tell you more about how you can make a difference to your community.

As a GLF foster carer, you’ll receive 24/7 fantastic support. We’re always there to help you. Additionally, you’ll receive financial support that includes a weekly amount of money to cover the costs of caring for a child, as well as a reward element. We avoid making one-off payments, keeping things simple by providing a fixed weekly fee.

At present, our GLF carers receive:

– £450 for caring for a child aged 0-10

– £475 for caring for a child aged 11+

– £550-1600 for enhanced children whose needs are significantly higher or more complex.

We asked our carer Jacqui, what's the best thing about fostering?

Everyday is different, I'm never bored, that's probably the best thing. It's not like raising your own children, you have to face different challenges everyday.
